# Step-by-step on how to use your Tability trial

{% embed url="<https://www.loom.com/share/4e905f602e9940a8b17e462f56ec5875>" %}

Tability offers a free 14 day trial so that you can explore every feature before you decide to move forward with a new OKR tool. Our free trial includes unlimited access to all of our Premium features, and a workspace that will automatically transition into a paid account so that you don’t have to worry about redoing work that you’ve done. Below is a step-by-step guide for testing Tability (and any tool that offers a free trial) so that you can make the most of your 14 days. The best part? You could complete it all in 30 minutes and use the rest of your trial for a deeper look with your team.

## Explore the sample data

Your Tability workspace comes complete with 3 sample plans. We’ve structured our sample plans to include a top-level set of company OKRs and two supporting sets of departmental OKRs. The key results within the plans are also linked to relevant dependencies so that you can see how an interconnected OKR structure works.

### Start with the company plan

Plans in Tability are where all OKRs are written. You can think of a plan as just one group of your OKRs that are set up in the way that you’ll likely meet and talk about them. Instead of all of your OKRs in one spot, each department or level can have their own dashboard. This doesn’t mean that OKRs are siloed, just that you don’t have to set up complex filters in order to track your performance for a group or team.

Navigate to the Plans page on the left and click on the Company OKRs plan (the date for the plan will be adjusted to when you started your trial).

In the Company OKRs plan, you can explore all of the OKRs, alongside their check-ins. Click the arrows on the left to see all of the connected key results from other plans and all of the initiatives tied to each key result.

Click on a key result to explore the key result dashboard and see progress over time and the comments from the owner of the key result.

Use this sample to help you think through what sort of goals you have or plan on writing.

### Continue exploring the other plans

Back on the Plans page, you can find the sub-plans under the Company OKRs. A sub-plan is a group of OKRs that are owned by a lower team and support the higher plans. We have two layers of OKRs in your sample data, but you can have as many as you would like. (Orgs often will have Company>Line of Business>Region>Team as their hierarchy of OKR plans, depending on how far they’ve rolled out OKRs).

The Sales and Product plans have their own OKRs, including the linked goals, so you can see how linking goals appears for those departments.

### Assign yourself as an owner

These plans all have live OKRs. Which means you can make updates and perform check-ins on them to see how things change. Assign yourself as an owner of a key result by clicking on the avatar (the image) on a key result and selecting yourself from the drop down. We recommend doing this in at least two different plans. Here’s why:

Navigate to the Home page on the left. On your home page, select My focus from the top. Here you will see all of the key results assigned to you as an owner. Notice that, regardless of plan, they all appear in one easy to navigate spot. Tability’s goal is to make sure that the user experience is as smooth as possible, and we’ve built multiple views to support the different workflows different members of your team will have, whether they’re responsible for running the entire OKR process or if they just need to update their key results.

## Create your first plan

We always encourage you to create a plan so you can see the process. To start, we’ll navigate to the Plans page again on the left.

Here, we’ll click Create a new plan. If you don’t have OKRs that you want to test with, try these settings:

**Name:** Example OKRs\
**Get check-in reminders:** Every week\
**This plan is for:** This quarter\
**Permissions:** Everyone can edit

The name is how you label your OKRs. Your check-in frequency controls when Tability sends your team email notifications for them to update their key results. The timeline is based on calendar quarters (Q1 is Jan-Mar, Q2 is Apr-June, etc.). If you don’t use calendar quarters, you can set the start and end of your quarter with a custom timeline. And permissions are focused on who can view these OKRs and who can make changes to them (like adding in new key results or changing metric targets). All of these settings can be changed later if you need.

After we’ve created our new plan, we can add our OKRs in one of three ways: Writing them from scratch, using the magic import, or generating them with AI. If you already have goals written, try the Magic Import– you can import from CSV, an image, or text, no specific format required. Note: Magic Import works best when it’s clear what is an objective, key result, and task/initaitive. Complicated spreadsheets with many additional data points can cause upload errors.

If you don’t have OKRs written, you can generate some with AI to test out the AI generator. Click Generate, then give the system a prompt on what you’d like to work on. You can chat back and forth with the AI until you’re happy with the suggestion, then tell it to add in the goal.

You can manually write your OKRs as well. If you want a quick option to have, try this sample OKR (*you can also copy/paste this into the magic import!*):

Objective: Provide our clients the best onboarding experience\
Key Result1: Reduce onboarding time from 15 hours to 5 hours\
Key Result2: Reduce the number of abandons from 15% to 7%\
Key Result3: Increase NPS from 60 to 70\
Initiative 1: Write new support materials\
Initiative 2: Update tool tips\
Initiative 3: Roll out new chat bot to offer faster support

To add a task/initiative when writing goals manually, click the + to the left of the key result the initiative supports. Or click enter under that key result, then Tab to change to tasks/initiatives.

Note: In this plan, if you write it manually, you’ll see your initials next to each key result. When creating a key result, we’ll automatically set you as the owner. You can change this to another member of your team (if you’ve invited them) by clicking on the avatar and selecting a new member from the drop down.

Once your goals are created, hit publish.

## Review reports

The sample plans (and any plans that you create) are all treated as live data and you can look at how Tability creates reports as if it was your real OKR data. To start, you can press the Presentation Mode button on any plan to see an automatically generated report that can be shared to external stakeholders:

\
We recommend using a sample plan so that you can see everything available in the Presentation Mode.

Next, we’ll navigate to the Filters page. Filters will show all of the objectives, key results, and initiatives/tasks in your workspace and allow you to filter by different criteria. Try adding a filter for Confidence: at risk and off track and Progress below: 50%. You can also save this as a segment, allowing you to return to this filter set with a single click.

Now check out the Dashboards. Creating your own custom dashboard is a great way to explore all of the data available (see our suggestions for a custom dashboard [here](/docs/become-a-tability-power-user/how-tos/build-a-better-dashboard-keeping-your-team-accountable-and-on-track.md)), but you can also look at our prebuilt dashboards along the top. The People dashboard will only show you the real people in your workspace, but check out the Key Result dashboard and the Insights dashboard for real views into what they’ll look like when your team is using Tability.

### Spend some time with AI Mode

Next, head to the AI Mode page. Here, you’ll see a live AI chat experience that will answer questions about the data in your Tability workspace. Some useful prompts to try out:
* Write me an executive summary for this week
* What needs the most attention right now?
* Give me a list of things to celebrate with my team
* Which check-ins have the least information and I should follow up on?
* Write a retrospective for all of our OKRs and find trends in what went well and what didn’t

With the sample data already in place, you can prompt the AI the same way you would during your real OKR cycle. So think about which plans are still being worked on, which team members are performing well or not, which goals are hitting their targets, and what you can improve in the next quarter. AI mode is available to help with it all.

## For deeper dives

Once you’ve explored the sample data and how it feels to use Tability, the best way to continue forward is with a second (or third or fourth) set of eyes. Your Tability trial can have as many users in it as you would like, so make sure the right decision makers get to take a look.

Interested in what access controls and customisation options are available? Click on the gear icon in the upper left to access your workspace settings. Here, you’ll find everything from terminology customisation to adding your branding to your workspace to changing who is able to create plans.

If you’d like to see how smooth using Tability can be, you can also set up integrations and use them as data sources. The easiest way to test the integrations is through a spreadsheet– we have Excel online and Google Sheets integrations available in your workspace settings under Integrations. Once you’ve connected, check out this guide on setting up and using data connectors. They’ll help you automatically pull information from another source or automate when a goal is updated.
