# Auto-sync for data sources

Record progress automatically from a connected data source

## Overview

Auto-sync creates progress updates from a connected data source on a daily or weekly schedule. It is useful when the source value changes frequently and you want the KR history to stay current between human check-ins.

Auto-sync is available on the **Premium** subscription and during a trial.

## Before you start

You need:

* permission to edit the KR;
* a supported data source connected to it; and
* an active plan.

Auto-sync is not available for **Link** sources or for rollup and milestone KR types.

## Enable auto-sync

1. [Connect a data source](/docs/become-a-tability-power-user/features/outcomes-key-results/data-sources.md) to the KR.
2. Open the KR and click the settings icon in the **Data connector** section.
3. In the **Data source** tab, turn on **Enable auto-sync**.
4. Under **Sync interval**, choose **Daily** or **Weekly**.

Tability will retrieve the source value on that schedule while the plan is active.

## Add AI analysis to synced updates

If Tability AI is enabled for your workspace, you can also turn on **Enable Tability AI**. Tability will analyse the synced progress and add improvement suggestions in a check-in comment.

AI analysis uses 200 credits for each sync. Leave this option off if you only need the progress value recorded.

## Automated and human check-ins

Auto-sync does not replace the owner’s review. Tability still sends check-in reminders so a person can explain what changed, confirm confidence and record decisions or risks.

Automated updates appear in the KR history with Tability AI/Tabby as the author. Human check-ins continue to show the person who submitted them.

## Sync now or troubleshoot a stale value

To retrieve the current value immediately, open the KR and click the connected source in the **Data connector** section. The same section shows the most recent sync date.

If a sync is stale or fails:

1. Confirm that the plan is still active.
2. Open the **Data source** tab and check that auto-sync is enabled.
3. Confirm that the connected account still has access to the selected metric, report, sheet or query.
4. Try a manual sync from the **Data connector** section.
5. Reconnect the integration or ask a workspace administrator for help if the connector is restricted.

## Change or stop auto-sync

Open the KR’s **Data source** tab to switch between **Daily** and **Weekly**, or turn off **Enable auto-sync**. Turning it off stops future automated updates but does not remove existing check-ins.
