How to use tags, labels, and custom fields

Organize your OKR data to fit your reporting needs

In Tability, you have lots of ways to organization your data. Let's cover some of the most common options.

Using tags

Tags are the most flexible option for adding another data point to your key result. Most often, we see organizations use tags for:

  • Highlighting specific key result focus areas (i.e. Revenue, Product, Customers, etc.)

  • Set priority levels (P0, P1, P2)

  • Call out key result states (Deprioritized, Abandoned, Key Focus)

  • Align goals to pillars (Pillar 1 - Innovation, Pillar 2 - Customer Focus)

  • And more

Let's look at the pillar example:

If we want to show how our goals align to annual pillars that we set during annual planning, we can create a tag for each of the pillars. We can do this from the Admin settings under Manage Tags. I'll create a tag for each of my pillars:

If you don't have admin access, you can also create tags in the tags section of a key result as long as it hasn't been restricted.

In this section, we can also decide if we want to restrict the ability to create tags by non-admins. This can help ensure that you don't accidentally end up with mispelled duplicates of existing tags. You can also delete or edit tags on this page.

Once the tags have been created, we can assign our key results to those pillars. Click on your key result and choose the tag inside of the Details section:

When your organization wants to view all of the key results connected to a pillar, they can do so in the filters page by filtering by tag:

Using (and customising) labels

Labels in Tability help your team show which of your key results are committed targets (you've committed to hitting at 100%) and which are aspirational targets (you might not get to 100% or might not pick up at all). You can find the labels in the Details section of the key result (see above). The default label for all key results is "Standard."

If you set a goal to Committed or Aspirational, you'll see the corresponding icon appear on the key result (a target for Committed and a rocket for Aspirational)

You can also filter for these goals by label as well in the filters page (for instance, if you want to see all of the committed key results that are currently marked Off Track).

If your organization uses different terminology (like Roofshot and Moonshot), however, you can change each label in your workspace settings under Customise. You can also disable the other labels if you don't use them. Scroll to the labels section and update your labels:

Using custom fields

Custom fields give you a custom text field on your key results. These text fields aren't able to be used in filters, however they can be used by your team to highlight important information about their key results and show that information in the Details section of the key result dashboard.

Some useful custom fields include:

  • Budget

  • Spend

  • Story points/T-shirt size

These can be written and re-written as you need, so this is a great place to have a data point that can easily change. You can access the custom fields (or disable them) from the same Customise settings as above.
