How to use Tability’s AI for your complete OKR cycle

You start by writing your OKRs. Then you edit them. Then your team gives you regular updates on your progress. Once a month (or at least at the end of the quarter) you do a retrospective. And all the while, you’re running reports and analyzing the data to keep your team on track.

Tability has a suite of AI tools to make the entire process easier for you and your team. Whether you’re just getting started with OKRs or want to run all of your business intelligence through AI, we’ve got you covered.

Topics covered:

Setting OKRs with AI

Some teams that are new to the concept of OKRs struggle off the bat with figuring out how to write their OKRs. Often they end up focused on output or set a metric driven objective with tasks for their key results. And as often as you can coach a team about how to write OKRs (and we have resources herearrow-up-right), an example can work wonders to help them craft a great set of goals.

The Tability goal setting AI lets your team do just that. They can tell the AI what they are trying to achieve plus any relevant context (what your industry is, how big their team is, what sort of metrics they look at), and Tability will generate a fully formed OKR for them.

OKRs aren’t one-size-fits-all, and we want to make sure the OKR your team generates is as specific as possible. Once the OKR has been generated, Tability will also give your team some additional questions to answer to help refine their OKR– they can chat with the AI to answer those questions or give any additional context they need to refine their OKR.

Once the team is happy with their OKR, they can press Use this suggestion to automatically add it to their plan.

Getting AI feedback on your OKRs

If your team has already written their OKRs, Tability’s AI can still help ensure that they’re in the best shape possible. Once you’ve added your OKRs, press the Generate analysis button to get AI feedback on the goals you’ve written. The Feedback will cover everything from making sure that a key result is measurable to if it’s aligned with the Objective.

Click on the feedback to see what part of the plan it’s for, plus a suggestion for how to re-write the objective or key result to be aligned with best practices. If you like the suggestion, click Update Key Result to automatically change the highlighted goal.

Generating Actionable Initiatives with AI

Not only can Tability’s AI help create your OKRs or give you feedback on how to write them, but it can also help you figure out how to approach the day-to-day work so you can achieve them. As you add your key results to your plan, you can hit enter>tab to add initiatives (or tasks or projects– however your team has named them) to your plan. Click on the Generate initiatives button to be taken to the AI generator.

In the generator, you can add any additional context you need (for example: “we want to focus on 1-to-many projects” or “Suggest ways to automate this”) or put constraints on how many initiatives to suggest.

You’ll need to put something in the message, even if it’s just “results please”

As with generating OKRs, you can continue to refine the suggestions by chatting back and forth with the AI. Once you’re happy, hit Use this suggestion to add them to your plan (you can always remove any you don’t want or need later).

Update your OKRs with AI analysis

After you’ve set your OKRs, you can automate your progress using our auto-sync plus AI analysis. This lets you connect your key result directly to a data source and pull progress programmatically, syncing the data every day or every week.

Enabling AI analysis will give you not only the metric update, but also a suggested confidence based on the metric progress, how much time is left, if you’re accelerating or decelerating in progress, and any human check-ins that have been made previously. To set it up, click on your key result and select Connect a Data Sourcearrow-up-right. When setting up your data source, you can choose to auto-sync and if you do, you can choose to add Deep Analysis:

Don’t need the AI analysis every week? You can manually generate the AI analysis by clicking the Generate check-in button on the key result dashboard.

Ask your data questions with AI Mode

After you’ve gotten updates on all of your key results across all of your plans, you’ll need to monitor your team’s progress to ensure everyone has what they need to be successful. You can build dashboardsarrow-up-right (and we have some great customizable dashboardsarrow-up-right that you can create). But you can also skip directly to the answers you’re looking for using AI Mode.

AI Mode works just like your favorite LLM. You can ask your data a question and it will respond with a clear answer, including links to any of the goals it’s talking about. You can continue to ask questions to dig in further to your data.

But AI mode can do more than just give you answers. Want a dashboard created? Ask AI mode. Need to generate an entire plan with suggested OKRs? Ask AI mode. Need to draft an executive summary to send to leadership? Ask AI mode.

Plug your data into your LLM

As more of your company’s data is plugged into your preferred LLM, the easier it can be to synthesize tons of information into actionable insights. Tability’s MCP serverarrow-up-right gives you the ability to add your OKR data to that growing dataset.

With the MCP integration, you can view your workspace, plans, and objectives, check progress on key results, list initiatives and their statues, and even create check-ins with progress updates, all from inside of where you’re already working.

Generate Retrospectives with AI

You can use Tability’s AI to generate retrospectives. These retrospectives will automatically:

  • Give a summary of your progress from the beginning of the quarter to the current date

  • List out wins and fails from your team

  • Score your objectives

  • Summarize your key results and the work your team did towards them

Each retrospective can be edited– you can add details, remove content, change scores, or include new sections. To get started, go to the Retrospectives tab of your plan. Create a new retrospective and choose Populate with AI. Click into any section to make changes as needed.

And more…

We’re continuing to roll out new AI features to help you get more done towards your OKRs. Interested in creating and managing AI agents directly from Tability and having them own key results? Check out our upcoming Agents feature (and request early access) herearrow-up-right.
